Video Poker is a beloved game that can be wagered on in casinos around the globe, or alternatively at your house on your home computer, through an Internet connection. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player attempting to achieve the best combination of cards as you can in order to acquire money. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the enthusiast puts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and presses the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will be "handed out" on the screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers will need to now pick which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards he or she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be needed they will be given out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Typically, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to select the most money-making machine every time.
After the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that have been won. Further, several styles of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their winnings, in which instance another round is played. There are also differences between individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
